Snakes

As I mentioned in a previous blog entry, the area in which I live is served by a private fire department. One perk for fire service subscribers is that it comes with free poisonous snake removal. Basically if you find a snake on your property you can call the fire department and they will come and remove the snake for you. I have never had use this service, so I have never give it much thought, particularly to question of what they do with the snakes once they catch them, at least I didn't until last night when I saw a fire truck parked directly behind my house.

As can be seen from the picture, across the road from my backyard is open desert. This is where the fire truck was parked, about 30 feet from my pool. When I went to see what they were doing back there, I saw them letting a cage full of rattlers loose. So apprenty the field that the dogs and I like to run in is a rattle snake dumping ground. Lovely.
